Italy—This alert U.S. 5th Army Platoon, (in foreground), took no chances when they sighted cars filled with what appeared to be British soldiers driving toward them along this road in Italy. They blocked the road, their guns ready, and stopped the strangers only to find they were an advanced patrol of the British 8th Army which had driven from the south of Italy to meet the American forces in the Salerno area, the two groups exchange greetings.
